Description:
Winchester Model 21 .410 & 28 Gauge SxS Shotgun
COMBO - WINCHESTER, NOT CSMC!

General Specs: Winchester, .410 & 28 Gauge, 410=7lbs 12oz; 28=8lbs 6oz, Side by Side
Serial Number: 32839

Most double gun enthusiasts are well aware of the reputation earned by the Winchester Model 21; a gun of far superior strength and mechanical genius that was under the micro management of John Olin himself. With only 32,000 produced (compared to 250,000 Parkers!), any high condition Model 21 is a valuable, investment quality firearm.  John Olin took a personal interest in the .410 bore Model 21 and of the few made most were made for him and/or his personal friends.  From 1950 to 1982  they only made about 65 .410 bore guns in total, and even fewer 28ga. guns.  Winchester 28 gauge barrels were made from 20ga. barrel blanks bored to 28ga. diameter making them a bit heavier than the 20ga. barrels.  That is what you will find on this gun, original Winchester 28ga. barrels with vent rib to match up with the .410 barrels.  We have a M21 .410/28ga. set, sn32839 that was serial numbered prior to 1969 (the Gun Control Act of 1968 required a letter to be used as a prefix to the number, a practice that Winchester began using in 1969 by adding a "W" in front of the serial number), that is built as a small bore set.  There is no record of this gun at the Cody Museum, and that is not uncommon as more than a few records were lost over time.  Upon close examination you will see both sets of 28" vent rib barrels have all Winchester proof marks and inspector marks, as shown in Ned Schwing's book "WINCHESTER'S FINEST-THE MODEL 21" on pages 54, 71, 72, and 263.  This is a Winchester made gun and a very rare one indeed.  Engraved in Grand American style with 5 gold inlays, stocked in nicely figured B Carved wood and cased in a fine oak and leather case with accessories, this is a fine collectible and rare Winchester Model 21 small bore set that will be great fun to shoot and enjoy as it gains in value over time.  Keep in mind this is not a recently made Connecticut Shotgun Manufacturing M21, but a true Winchester made gun with all Winchester proof and inspector marks.  Thanks for looking!
