Description:
For sale, a very interesting flintlock cannon barrel/blunderbuss pistol with a spring loaded bayonet.  This pistol was likely made in the 1790 to 1800 period and while unmarked entirely, it appears to have Belgian characteristics.  It is a very well made pistol with lots of features not common on the lessor pistols of the day.  The approximately .50 caliber barrel funnels outward at the muzzle for ease of loading and to help spread the deadly buckshot loads of the day for close combat.  The spring loaded bayonet is held in place by the trigger guard which slides towards the grip thus releasing the bayonet.  It would swing out and latch in the forward position.  This was to allow the shooter some protection if reloading was not an option.  The grips are a nice looking hardwood type and are also in excellent condition like the remainder of this pistol.  This cannon barrel pistol is 100% functional.  This is a great piece that would be at home in any antique arms collection or used as a conversation piece/decorator.
