Description:
Colt Single Action Army US Calvary (w/ Kopec Letter) 45 LC MFG 1874 and was ordnance sub-inspected by O.W. Ainsworth, This gun falls between 4500-5504 which falls within Lot Five. Lot Five was one of the "prime" lots which had been issued to the U.S. Seventh Cavalry. The cylinder is a later pre-war "smokeless-powder", rear sight has been altered with an inserted wedge and "U" shaped aperture, front sight has been mounted on a platform and dove-tailed, has had a "very professional" action job, 3 frame screws are replacements, base pin and base pin bushing are replacements, trigger polished, muzzle has been crowned flat, replacement grips.
In the Kopec Letter it is mentioned that it is somewhat disheartening that some of these modifications and replacement parts have taken place however "In all of the twenty some odd years which we were engaged in the repair and restoration of these old Single Action Colts, we ave never encountered the degree of excellent workmanship this revolver represents. The fine fitting of the additional parts and barrel-to-cylinder gap is simply outstanding"
