Description:
This eleven inch horn has "Greens Pond Apr 12th 1864" carved into end plug. Body of horn is scratch marked "Knealey's Green Bay 1864" on side with lighthouse, ship, "GWA", with M.R.R. inside. Crude geometric carvings and lines also decorative horn. Spout has a carved shoulder holding a leather thong strap. Plug has a brass eye screw for strap. No spout plug is present. It looks like the carvings were done at different periods. The greens pond lighthouse was not built until 1872 so we are not certain of the time of the carvings. Still an interesting horn with a Newfoundland connection.
