Description:
SOLD...Antique 1873 Winchester 38-40 with a very nice bore. Here is a very nice 1873 Winchester. It has the standard 24" barrel. S/N 464410 and was made in 1893. The Winchester factory letter is included with the sale and shows the gun is in the coorect configuration. This is a straight up honest gun throughout. The bore is very nice. Shows strong rifling and just light roughness from black powder. NO rings or bulges. NO big pits or craters. It shoots very accurate as all the 38-40's do even ones with not so perfect bores. This is my favorite caliber for shooting. The mechanics are all excellent... It feeds, fires and ejects perfectly. NO bulged cases or backed out primers. Both hammer notches are perfect and hold positive. The metal is an untouched medium plumb brown patina that has never been cleaned on or messed with .. NO pitting. It still has the original front and rear sights. All the markings are good but the caliber markings on the bottom of the brass carrier are worn as is common.. Still has the original dust cover that is still tight and retracts perfectly with the lever throw. The screw heads are clean and sharp and not all burred up. The carrier and lever spring screws on the bottom of the receiver show just a little wear but are very servicable. The upper tang screw looks like a correct old period replacement but that is it.. The wood is very nice as well. The forearm fits tight and full to the metal. NO splits or cracks but just a few minor and honest handling dings. The left side of the forearm shows a worn spot along the barrel about mid way as you can see in the close up photo. It does not look like it was splintered but just worn from use. The butt stock is nice also with NO splits or cracks. Fits fairly tight and full to the metal as you can see. Has some honest handling dings and scratches from honest use but no abuse. The wood does not look like it has been sanded on or messed with and is not oil soaked like so many you will see. Still has nice color and grain figure. This ole 73 is as honest as they get and shows no abuse. It has a very nice bore and shoots great. These are getting very hard to find in this condition that I can sell for less than $2000. It has a Winchester Factory letter {$75 value} and all is correct and not messed with. I think you will be very pleased with this one as I have it priced very reasonable. A very nice 73 for the money. $50 insured shipping. Call 765-728-8049 with any questions or more photos. Please take a look at my other items while you are here.
