Description:
Shipped in 1936, this revolver has remained in the family of the original purchaser until now. This serial number is listed in Timothy Mullin's book "Magnum, The S&W .357 Magnum Phenomenon" as having been converted by King, in San Francisco, to a smoothbore (page 233) and is the only one we see like that in the serial number list. What an unusual modification for an expensive gun! The original "bored" (out to 44 cal) barrel is still present in the factory two-piece box, along with the original registration certificate in its original mailing tube. The all matching serial numbered revolver, including the matching numbered Magna grips, now wears a non-serial-numbered 3-1/2" barrel, also installed by King's in SF. As we understand, there was previously a .44 cylinder that was used to convert the gun into a shot-pistol; there is, however, light rifling in the 8-3/4" barrel. In its current configuration, this was carried by the family patriarch, a police officer in the SF East Bay Area, then by his son, also in Law Enforcement in our area. Mechanically, the pistol is in excellent condition, with great bore and chambers, superb timing and glassy-slick action. As a cop's gun, it got fired only a bit but was carried alot! There is the usual evidence of having been carried in a holster for years: Blue loss on the trigger guard, backstrap and behind the muzzle, and worn checkering. But, no sighns of rust or other damage. Sale will include the gun with both barrels, box, certificate, Factory letter signed by Roy Jinks, the previous owners' two pictured holsters and copies of the two photos showing the revolver with its original purchaser. The pictured Inspector's badge and wallet are NOT included and will be returned to the family along with the original photos. Give a call or email for additional information. Serious inquiries only, please.
