Pre Pearl Harbor manufacture Springfield Armory M1 Garand. Serial number 308736 dates to August 1941. This M1 was part of the British WW2 lend-lease program of 1941-1942 (see notes below). Barrel is Springfield dated July 1941, with British proof marks.
 
This rifle is in excellent used condition. No pitting anywhere. All parts are described below and shown in photos.
 
Two M1 enbloc clips (no ammo) are included, along with the sling noted below.
 
Part Details:
 
  • Receiver: marked “D 28291-9 SA” on leg, heat lot RE1. Excellent condition, absolutely no pitting, lettering and serial sharp as new. Original parkerized finish only worn slightly at corners and at contact points with moving parts. Has various markings on lower edge, see photos.
  • Barrel: marked “S-A-7-41”, and has British proof marks “NP 30  2 1/2  18 TONS” in op rod slot, also “P” with a couple of punch marks. Marked “D35448-7 REP-27 A” on top, normally under the handguard. Bore is bright but used, flat crown in very good condition, rifling good, no chrome pads at gas port. External finish is very good, chamber is in the white.
  • Barrel Gauge Measurements: MW(muzzle wear): 1 ¾, TE(throat erosion):  5
  • Clip latch: early round front type, unmarked
  • Op rod: unmodified, marked “D35382 3 SA. Exc condition, slight pitting for 1/2” behind piston, some finish wear from contact.
  • Op rod catch: late type, unmarked
  • Bullet guide: WWII milled type, unmarked
  • Follower: late type, marked “8”
  • Follower arm: no bevel
  • Follower rod: short fork, riveted
  • Bolt: marked “D28287-2SA RE1”
  • Sight knobs: flush nut, elevation checkered, windage knurled
  • Rear sight cover: late type with ribs
  • Rear sight aperture: double track, unmarked
  • Trigger housing:  marked “D28290-5-SA” Small pad, cloverleaf hole, no pitting, some finish wear from wood contact
  • Trigger guard: milled WWII type, marked “C-46025-1 SA”
  • Trigger: late type, no extra hole. Sear Is in the white.
  • Hammer: marked “C46008-2 SA”
  • Hammer spring housing: in the white
  • Hammer spring plunger: WWII type with wings, in the white
  • Safety: round top, marked “C46015-6SA”
  • Gas cylinder: narrow sight platform, flat on top of rear ring, bayonet lug marked “K” with punch mark. Gas cylinder group finish very good considering 1941
  • Front sight: 0.65 wide, unmarked.
  • Gas cylinder lock: beveled front WWII type
  • Gas cylinder screw: single slot type, unmarked
  • Stock: walnut, WWII type with trap. Circle “P” on pistol grip, left side abraded so that no inspector mark remains. Has round clip latch cut, see photos. We have seen many arsenal replacement stocks, this appears SA to us, extra photos included. No cracks, no repairs, overall nice appearance.
  • Front handguard: walnut, no cracks, relatively few dings/scratches, matches stock appearance
  • Rear handguard: walnut, has typical crack at top rear, relatively few dings/scratches, matches stock appearance
  • Buttplate: flat plunger type, much better than average condition
  • Sling: leather, old, no markings, steel hooks
