Produced by Mauser, in violation of the Treaty of Versailles, the Germans coded the manufacturing dates and locations to confuse the Allied inspectors, since they weren't supposed to produce war materials. The "G" date Lugers were produced only in the second year that Mauser was using the secret, single letter coding (1935). The "G" over the chamber indicates 1935 production. The S/42 on the toggle link indicates Mauser manufacturing. This gun has the correct straw parts with rust blued and nitre blued parts. All of the serial numbered parts match on the pistol except for the magazine. This is subvariation I, as designated by collectors and without eagle-type acceptance stamps. This is an early "d" block gun, serial numbered 1858 d. The gun has some muzzle wear and high-edge blue loss, but is overall a great example of an early, low production gun.
