Description:
This bayonet measures 16 inches OA with 11 /14 inch blade. Ricasso shows traces of "Simson & Co. Suhl" marking, crossguard shows a small eagle? or bird mark; pommel is stamped "J5930". The blade edge shows "B" in oval. The blade retains 95% of a deep blue finish with scabbard wear, grips are dark wood held by bolts and spanner nuts. Crossguard and pommel have a grey patina. This comes in an unmarked scabbard with a brown patina on exposed surfaces, traces for blue around frog stud and lots of wear from the frog. A very good example of this rather scarce bayonet; only 7000 of these were made in Germany to accompany rifles prior to the outbreak of WWII; the majority were re-cycled into working tools; aka:"Swords into plowshares".
