Description:
SOLD! THANK YOU! COLT 1911 COLLECTORS AND WORLD WAR II BUFFS ATTENTION! NEAR NEW 1943 1911A1 SEMI AUTO PISTOL WITH THREE COLT MAGAZINES, CORRECT MILITARY HOLSTER, MAGAZINE POUCH ANDBELT. PISTOL IS ALL COLT - NO MIXED PARTS - GUARANTEED! SLIDE IS SERIAL NUMBERED TO FRAME! SERIAL NUMBER 905109. I’VE SOLD SEVERAL HUNDRED 1911A1S AND THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST I’VE EVER HAD. NOTE: THIS FIREARM CAME FROM MASSACHUSETTS AND, AND AS SUCH CAN BE SOLD TO A MASSACHUSETTS RESIDENT IF TRANSFERRED BY A MASS FFL DEALER. C&R OK. According to the former owner of this beauty it was shipped to the San Francisco Naval Depot in 1943; however you would need a Colt letter to verify this. Supposedly, it was issued to the armorer on a Pacific Theater warship. His last name was Neill and he VERY lightly scratched this name into the slanted bottom the left grip panel. It is almost invisible and if the owner hadn’t pointed it out I would never have noticed it because it is so faint. The same name is written inside the holster. Anyway, apparently his ship was torpedoed and before abandoning ship he grabbed this sidearm, wrapped it in oil cloth and left the ship. He was rescued shortly thereafter. We received the outfit from the individual who bought it from Mr. Neill when he was very elderly. We have no documentation of this but felt we should pass on this information anyway. Now for the pistol. I would rate it at 97% condition. It has all the right markings which are sharp and easy to read. The military ordinance wheel which is stamped at the rear of the right side of the frame is a little harder to read but this is not uncommon on many of these pistols. When you remove the firing pin stop at the rear of the slide you will find a serial number which matches the number on the frame. This practice was stopped at about serial number 1,140,000 so you know that the slide and frame have always been together. There is a “P” firing proof on top of the slide and also on the left side of the barrel leg with “Colt 45 Auto” inscribed above it on the barrel. There is also a “P” stamped just below the magazine release button. There are the initials “GHD” stamped on the left side of the frame behind and slightly above the trigger. These are the initials of Brigadier General Guy H. Drewry, Army inspector of Ordnance for Colt 1911A1 pistols in this serial number range. There is the letter “G” stamped on various parts including on top of the frame just in front of the hammer. As for the condition of the pistol, I would rate the Parkerizing at 97% with just a few slight rubs here and there, the most visible being on the frame just above the top right corner of the right grip. The Coltwood grips are perfect. The barrel retains almost all of its original blue and the bore is bright and shiny with sharp rifling. I’d call it 99%. There is a large "G" over "N" marking on the underside of the barrel. This marking appeared from approximately serial number 900,000 to 933,000. It is also marked on the side: "Colt .45 Auto" with a “P” on the barrel leg. With the pistol come 3 Colt magazines that are in about new condition, an excellent leather US marked holster made by Perkins Cambell dated 1917 and with the inspector’s initials RJM, a pouch for 2 magazines marked P B & Co dated 9 1918 and, finally, a tan coloredbelt. If you’re a 1911A1 collector, here’s your chance to obtain a super example with all original parts just as it left the factory, guaranteed to have never have been refinished or had any parts replaced. Don’t miss out on this great opportunity! FFL or C&R required. $50.00 shipping and insurance to an FFL dealer in the lower 48 states to be paid by buyer. NOTE: C&R license holders: C&R handguns MUST be sent to you by UPS Next Day Air Saver – cost about $40.00 additional postage for this one. C&Rs – don’t blame us. That’s the only legal way to send a handgun to a C&R. We accept cashier’s checks, money orders, VISA and MasterCard credit cards (add 3% for handling) and personal checks (item held 10 days for clearing).
