This is a handsome little coat pocket pistol that has an overall, lightly speckled, bright gray patina throughout. There are spots of darker freckling on the face of the frizzen and inside the pan. The action has a graceful swan-necked cock with dolphin engraving at the base, and there is geometric engraving along both the barrel and the box frame. The smooth, bag-shaped walnut grip is in fine-near excellent condition and has a beautiful, original relief-carved rose motif where the wood meets the top tang and two leaves sprouting from the bottom. The lock is still tight and fully functional, and the pistol is housed in a later wooden case with relined green baize interior, and a loosely attached single compartment wall. The pistol comes with the following accessories: original barrel spanner, a small pendant-style powder flask marked "Sykes", brass oiler, small brass container of spare flints, and the case key. The pistol was made by the Parisian firm of Fillon, Langumier & Autelet (1785 – 1790) and is an excellent example of a French turn-off pocket pistol.
