Description:
We love to find them when they look like this!  This untouched Mauser Model 71/84 in 11mm has a great look to it and is attic fresh with years of dust still in the corners.  Basically, Model 1871/84 was an improvement of the single shot bolt action Model 1871 Mauser with a tubular magazine.  Pre-dating the box magazine, the concept for this style of magazine rifle most likely came from the devastation handed to the Russians at the Battle of Plevna in 1877 by the Turks who were armed with Winchester Model 1866 Lever Action Muskets.  This bit of Yankee ingenuity left every military in Europe re-thinking the single shot rifles and for the Prussians, the 71/84 was their solution.  They were extremely well-built and in terms of fit and finish, arguably, the best weapon Mauser EVER BUILT!  This one was made in 1887 and has 100% all matching numbers with 90% original barrel blue and the original bright polished receiver that is beginning to haze to a light patina.  The top of the buttplate is unit marked and was told by a collector that it belonged to a good low-numbered Prussian unit known as Regiment Number 7 which was also named after King Wilhelm I.  From there, he said it would have been issued to Company No. 4 with a Wehrmacht (Inventory) Number of 232.  The stock is made of high grade Tiger-Striped European walnut and has never been cleaned or sanded.  It has a dull haze from many years of patina in storage that would look great left alone or it clean up beautifully if desired.  Great edges and sharp military stamps.  Bore has not been cleaned yet but is Very Good+ and could very possibly clean up to Fine or Excellent.
