Remington New Model Navy Revolver - Cal. .36 - 7 3/8" Bbl. - SN 35048(1865 Approx.) - serials matching on barrel, frame, and trigger guard - "P" insp. stamp on guard - no markings on the cylinder. May or may not be a Martial Navy as these were not stamped with the anchor until after the war. Bore is excellent - bright with sharp rifling - shows some very mild light roughness near the muzzle - perfect chambers and nipples. Excellent action with perfect timing and lock-up . Metal is excellent overall with sharp edges and markings - barrel and frame show a few areas of minor spotting and part of frame, barrel, and loading lever show evidence of touch-up - the cylinder also has some minor spotting and finish touch-up. Metal overall retains 85% -90% finish with some thinning but no rust or corrosion . Walnut grips are refeinished and may be replacements - the right grip has evidence of a repair around the screw escutcheon and the left grip has a small chip repair at the toe - about 95% finish remains. About 28,000 of this model were produced from 1863 to 1878 and it was a popular Civil War sidearm and a popular early West percussion revolver. This is a crisp New Model Navy in VG+ to about Fine condition overall with perfect mechanics and except for grips and blue touch-up, all original and unaltered. A very nice representative excample of a scarce Remington Navy revolver.
