The mechanics of this rifle remain excellent with a crisp trigger and heavy spring on the hammer. Some traces of case colors remain on the hammer and lever. The bore is excellent and shiny with no pitting or corrosion. The extractor/ejectors remain in excellent condition and the action function is flawless. Lever safety is present and in excellent working order. The stocks remain in original condition with no evidence of sanding or refinishing of any kind...no cracks or repairs of any kind...wood is proud of the metal and tight with no gaps in all areas. Crescent steel butt plate is original and in fine condition. The frame has some original blueing while the barrel and magazine tube have faded somewhat. Normal handling wear and small bumps and bruises are present as this rifle was carried and hunted with. The action opens and closes perfectly and locks up tight as a vault with no sloppy movement or any signs of wear. The original dust cover is present and functions as it should. The 24 inch barrel appears to have been shortened and was probably a 26 inch or 28 inch when it was shipped from the factory. The crown was also recessed and most likely done by a professional gunsmith. Barrel address and caliber marking are both clear and legible. This 73 would make an excellent hunter/shooter.
