Payment Types Accepted: Money Order, Certified Check Description: This is a above average example of an early Colt Model 1851 Navy Squareback Percussion Revolver. This came from a West-Coast estate and could have seen use out West during the California Gold Rush years. Colt made only 4,200 Model 1851's with the distinctive square-shaped trigger guards. This one is in the 2700 serial range making it a 2nd type with the set screw located above the barrel wedge. Made in 1851. Standard 7 1/2" Octagon Barrel with early style New York Address and V-shaped bullet cutout on the lug. The serial numbers are matching on this revolver with the exception of the wedge (original Colt wedge but non-matching) and the cylinder pin which looks to be a very old 19th century frontier replacement. We located an original cylinder pin which will accompany the gun. Nice Walnut Grips have the early slim jim profiles with 60% original varnish remaining. Never redone and show nice wood to metal fit. Frame shows considerable amounts of original case color hardening around 65% which has faded out to silver. Cylinder has aged to a gray to light brown patina with good edges and shows about 65% faded scene of the naval engagement. Good traces of the early style Ormsby engraver notation beneath the serial number. Original nipples are present and in good condition with the exception of one which has a chip out of the edge. Original safety pins between the chambers are almost worn smooth. The barrel has worn to a grey/light brown with strong New York barrel address and slight traces of original blue in protected areas. Very Good Bore with strong rifling. Good mechanics. Brass trigger guard and back strap show 10-15% original silver plating. Nice example of a Gold Rush era Colt Revolver.
