Made for 6” Barrel x 38 Colt Model 1889, 1892, 1896, 1901 & 1903 Double Actions (which replaced the Colt SAA during that time). All stitching is intact, strong and with tight joints. End plug at bottom of pouch is also soundly stitched in place. Leather is still soft and pliable. The oval bordered “U S” is on upper pouch. The belt loop is secured by rivets and was sized to accept the Mills woven belt for 45-70 or 30-40 Government Cartridges. Pouch and flap are smooth and relatively free of crazing, with that seen mostly on the belt loop. Flap is easily secured down over upper pouch by the brass stud, which is sewn onto pouch as backed up with an inner circular piece of leather. This holster was built to the military specifications of the period, remains totally original, and is far nicer than most as seen today.
These were issued to Western Forts in the USA by the early 1890’s (Like Forts Brown, Ringgold, McIntosh, Davis, Bliss, Grant, and Huachuca). They also were issued in the 1898 Spanish-American War and in the Philippines 1900-08.
