Description:
Starrs are almost uniformly martially marked Union Army guns, and many saw a lot of battle action. This particular pistol is an early 1858 Starr percussion revolver likely made in 1859 - 1861 near the very beginning of Starr's production. Fully marked, including inspector cartouches on both sides of  the grips and inspector initials in a number of places on the metal surfaces.  Grips also marked 112, likely a Regimental marking from a Union state such as Pennsylvania or New York. This gun works only in single action, and works well. Nipples are in good usable condition, with one being chipped. The nipples appear to be the same size as a small Colt nipple. This gun has seen real Civil War use, yet does not appear to have been screwed with. Only about 45,000 Starr revolvers were made, and they were the number three purchase by the Union Army. This is .44 caliber and dwarfs a Colt 1860 Army. It is in the size range of a Colt Dragoon. This gun did NOT sit in someone's drawer during the Civil War. It was carried and no doubt used to shoot the hell out of the enemy. Due to the relatively small production numbers Starrs are relative scarce compared to Colt Armys, Navys, and '49s. This would be a good candidate for a collector looking for a primary martial weapon from the Civil War at a great price. Serial number is 6988, all matching, and is found everywhere it should be. 6" barrel.  Bore somewhat grungy but should clean up a bit. Sold as a collector piece. Have checked by a competent gunsmith prior to shooting. Obviously no FFL is required, but please no shipping to New Jersey, California, Chicago and Cook County, or other places where not legal. By the way, if the pistol is tipped downward for a moment and then raised up it will fire double action. Thank you.
