Description:
Offered for sale is a mid 19TH Century J H Rector # 1785 of Syracuse, NY heavy barrel (.75 inches across the flats) muzzle loading target rifle with false muzzle and short starter in 40 caliber. with a barrel length of 32 inches and working double set triggers. The barrel on this Rector is marked on top "J H RECTOR 1785 Syracuse" bright and shiny with strong rifling, this rifle would still be a tack driver at the range if so desired. This rifle would be considered a deluxe rifle in that it features nice wood, checkered wrist and tight well excuted engraving. The condition on this rifle would be considered to be very good to excellent antique condition as all the pictures indicate. The barrel of this rifle was rebrowned long ago and there is one tight old crack emanting off the tang in the direction of the lock. This rifle was bought by myself from Old Barn s in the mid 2000's. A very nice target rifle from a well known New York State gun maker who was active from the late 1830's through the late 1860's mainly in Syracuse, NY. Rector has a lengthy write up starting on page 1320 of volume No 3 of the "New York State Fire Arms Trade"  compiled by Tom Rowe. While this rifle is not indexed in that volume as a known rifle it is very similar in nature and configuration and would be a fine addition to that list. All serious offeres will be entertained. This is an antique rifle and needs no FFL, Actual Cost of shipping will be born by the buyer. This will be shipped in a hard case for safe transport.

11/29/18 In light of recent reusults for similar Percusion Target rifles my pricing is right in line with those results.
