Description:
For sale, an interesting Colt 1917 Commercial model revolver chambered for the .45ACP cartridge.  These Colt 1917 Commercial revolvers were an effort by Colt to get rid of parts left over from World War 1, when Colt produced the Model 1917 revolver for the U.S. military.  WW1 ended before all the spare parts Colt made could be delivered to the U.S. Government/Military.  Someone at Colt decided that they could build a commercial version of the 1917 for civilians that was more finely finished than the military model with the famous factory Colt blue finish.  Colt built these guns in 1933 and 1934 only, and they are somewhat scarce today due to the low production numbers.  This example, serial number 335,606, was made in 1933 and has seen some use.  Mechanically it is in great shape.  The gun locks up super tight, the timing is perfect, and the trigger is smooth and nice and crisp.  This 1917 Commercial has about 85% of it's original Colt blue finish remaining.  There are a couple of bare areas on the cylinder where something spilled and removed the finish, and then there is normal high edge and holster wear from being carried.  The bare areas on the cylinder are not badly pitted, they just have very light pitting but little to no blue finish.  The original checkered walnut grips with the Colt medallions are in good shape.  They show some wear and tear but dont have any cracks or repaired areas.  They fit the revolver nicely and are nice and tight to the frame.  The bore and cylinder bores are in good shape overall.  The cylinder bores are clean and bright with no pits.  The bore of the barrel is also bright with strong rifling; with just very light oxidation in the grooves the last 1/3 to 1/2 of the barrel.  This is a scarce and unique Colt that we don't see very often.  This is the first Commercial 1917 Colt we have had in years.  This revolver would be a great shooter and a unique addition to any Colt collection.
