What an unusual musket was just acquired from an old NJ estate.. The lock, hammer and trapdoor assembly have toned to a soft silver gray patina with traces of the original blue. The barrel and attaching bands have a similar patina but slightly darker. There doesn't appear to be any rust, pitting or scratches anywhere. The barrel is stamped "P/ Upturned Eagle/ P". Which is proper. The rear sight is fully functional and correct for this model. The trigger guard retains about 80% of the original blue. There is a Circle P proof and the letter "T: stamped on the pistol grip. The butt plate has about 50% blue with scattered surface pits. The top tang s stamped U.S. The stock while it shows no cracks or splits has numerous nicks and dings with a chip or two on one of the edges. The left side of the stock does have the correct square cartouche dated 1889. The right side has the name "Weinberg" lightly scratched in it probably the original owner as it appears to be the same age as the rest of the gun. The gun comes with the original ramrod. The bore is fantastic. It is mirror bright with razor sharp rifling. Almost totally devoid of any graying.. Besides being great to look at, it should be outstanding on the range.....$795...
