- Note: Charles Osborne was originally established in Birmingham around 1838. Charles Osborne and Co. Ltd. would have put the manufacturing date sometime after December of 1914. Mr. Osborne also maintained a London address from 1881-1928, which would make the probable manufacture of this gun between 1914 and 1928. The gun was made for a Charles Dunphy who was a prominate social figure in the San Francisco Bay area in the 1920's. Both sets of barrels are nitro proofed for 1 1/8oz loads. The 32.5" barrels are choked improved cylinder/ full while the 28" barrels are choked improved cylinder and improved cylinder. Stock dimensions are 13.75" x 1.75"x 2.75" with a Pachmayr decelerator pad. The gun is adorned with a beautiful and very tight English scroll engraving. A part from the expected surface handling marks for a gun of this age, there is a 2" scratch on the right side of the stock, but due to the darkness of the stock, this scratch does not stand out. The 28" barrels are finished with a Damascus pattern while the 32.5" barrels are blued and show a lot of surface finish wear but no abuse. This gun appears to have been a two gun set ordered by Mr. Dunphy, but the other action and stock are missing according to family members. Both barrels fit on-face, interchangably. Gun comes in original leather and brass luggage case.
