Description:
Here is a rare and uinique Westley Richards bar-in-wood from the most fertile and dynamic period of innovation in the British gunmaking industry.  This very pretty example was completed in 1872.
The barrels (black powder only) are 30" long with 2 1/2" chambers and excellent bores, with 9 thousandths of choke in each.  The action features carved teardrop fences, the locks are non-rebounding, and the hammers are of the pinfire type.  The gun uses the Westley Richards improved toplever snap action.  (The action is ever-so-slightly loose.)  The toplever is marked WESTLEY RICHARDS PATENT.  The stock is figured walnut with crisp checkering and heel and toe plates.  Forend key is slightly bent, and could be easily set right.  The stock measures 1 5/8" x 2 1/8" x 13 7/8".  The weight is 6 lbs 12 oz.  This fine double would make an excellent addition to a collection of early British guns, and it would also be fun to take out in the field to slay a grouse or three.
