Description: SOLD..Antique 1873 Winchester 38-40. Special Order 30" barrel. Very early third model and made in 1882.. S/N 97550.... Here is a very nice 1873 that has been refinished long ago but not over buffed and ruined like so many you see. I am not much on refinished guns but this one is a little more special. It has a special order 30" barrel with set trigger. Cody worksheet says it is all correct.{see photo}.. To start with the bore is near excellent with some darkness in the groves but strong and shiny lands. NO pitting. NO rings or bulges. It shoots as good as a new gun. Mechanics are excellent. It feeds, fires and ejects perfectly. Still has the original dust cover that is a bit loose as most all are. Both hammer notches are perfect and solid. As with most of these set triggers, this one does not seem to adjust. The trigger pull is normal and perfectly safe. The strange thing is, when I got this gun the set trigger work perfectly. I went to put it in the safe and worked it one more time and it just has a normal trigger pull now so I am sure it is something minor inside. I just do not have the time to take it apart to see what it needs. Anyway, the gun functions perfectly the way it is. The metal as you can see has been refinished but the markings are all clear and have not been all washed out from buffing. Just a little bit of dishing around some of the screw holes and the top line in the barrel address is a little weak but that is it !!! Everything is perfectly readable. {see all photos}... There is NO pitting under the refinish and just shows a few areas where it has flaked and worn just a little on the reciever and side plates. I think it is a pretty old re blue. It also has a Beach globe front sight that might been a later replacement. It has an excellent sight picture. Even if it is not an original it is still a $125 sight that I see priced in my catalogs of modern sights. The rear sight is correct original.. The wood is excellent as well. The forearm is still proud to the metal with NO splits or cracks. Just a couple very tiny dings and that is it. The butt stock is the same with NO splits or cracks and still fits tight and full to the metal. I do not think the wood has been sanded on or messed with as there is no added varnish on it. Just very nice wood. Not much else to say about this one. It is a special order 1873 and it is a very early 3rd model made in 1882. The 30" barrels do not show up very often and they are real neat. Get the set trigger working for a bonus. You can remove the re blue if so desired and let it stand as a gray gun as the markings are still very clear. I have seen guns never re finished that have worn markings way worse than these. You will love it as a shooter !!! I think I have it priced very fair for what it is. $50 insured shipping.
