Description:
This M 1816 features a 16 inch blade with slash point and 9 1/4 inch flute. The socket measures just shy of 3 inches with "T" shaped mortice cut. The bridge has a squared top to the cut. Bayonet is slightly offset to the right. The muzzle ring is slightly out of round. Blade is marked "US" over "JB" over "L" with an odd stamping below (see photos). Right side of socket is tamped "B87". Metal shows scattered areas of light pitting with developing dark patina.
