Description:
SOLD...Antique 1889 Marlin. Here is a pretty nice ole 1889 Marlin. Has the standard 24" round barrel. S/N  69987 and made in 1892. Caliber is in 32-20. The bore is good to very good with strong rifling all the way through. Has some black powder roughness but no big craters and NO rings or bulges. I think the bore will clean even better with some shooting and scrubbing. It even shoots cast lead bullets very well and would do even better with a jacketed bullet as most all 32-20's do with less than perfect bright bores. The mechanics are excellent. It feeds, fires and ejects but has a lazy ejection as all of these 89's have. It still how ever kicks the cases out of the reciever with a quick flip of the lever as all of these will do. Bad design on these 89's is the ejectors. NO bulged cases and NO backed out primers. The head space is perfect. The hammer notches are perfect and hold solid on half cock and full cock and not worn or broken as most all of this model is. Another bad hardening process that Marlin did not do correctly. The metal is a dark brown heavy patina with some light specks of surface crud here and there but NO pitting on the gun. The markings are all very readable but have the heavy patina in them but nothing that detracts from the gun at all. It still has both the original fron and rear sights. The front sight is the standard rocky mountain blade style and the rear is correct with the "legs" and the "fish hook" elevator.     { see photo }The screw heads are all sharp and not burred up as usually found on this model also. The wood is excellent on this gun. The forearm fits very tight and proud to the metal all around. Still retains some of the original varnish and has never been sanded or cleaned on. NO cracks or splits and still has great color. The butt stock is excellent as well with NO cracks or splits and fits tight and proud to the metal all around. Still has about 90% of the original varnish.. Just excellent wood on this one with NO issues what so ever.. These 89 Marlins are built tough and many claim better than the Winchester even though they did have some issues with broken hammer notches and weak ejectors as all you Marlin collectors know. I still buy all I can get at reasonable prices as they still sell very well.. This one would make a nice collector even though it has no finish and would be a great shooter also. Has a bit better than average bore for any antique 32-20 rifle as most are all shot out and pitted so bad they just will not shoot. I have this one priced right for the condition. $50 insured shipping. Call 765-728-8049 with any questions or more photos. Please take a look at my other antique firearms I have for sale while you are here and I will be listing many more very soon so check back often so you do not miss anything.
