Description:
Sharps New Model 1863 cartridge conversion Saddle Ring Carbine, serial number C17,XXX 22”bbl, .52 caliber, German silver blade front sight & elevation adjustable ladder rear sight. Top of barrel stamped “NEW MODEL 1863” at breech. Other marks visible throughout including “S” stamped on left side of the receiver & “E” on the underside of the lever. The barrel retains traces of blue finish in protected areas, otherwise a molted brown patina. Other metal retains traces of case colors in protected areas otherwise a smooth gray patina. Wood is very good with a hairline crack near the stock toe & minor pressure dents & scratches. Bore is in very good condition with tight rifling. Mechanically quite sound. Overall a nice example of a U.S. military Carbine.
