UNUSUAL AND INTERESTING "ERROR MARKED" SINGLE ACTION ARMY .38-40, 5 1/2" MADE 1901 WITH TWO LINE BARREL ADDRESS MARKING ONLY USED ON REVOLVERS WITH 4 3/4" OR LESS BARREL LENGTH, according the The Peacemaker Encyclopedia by Keith Cochran Factory errors in the standard markings or physical errors on the Peacemaker are infrequently encountered and these errors do not harm the operation of the gun and were passed by the Colt inspectors. These errors can add to the desirableness of the gun: (he then lists a number of such errors including two-line barrel address on 5 1/2-inch barrel) In 30 years this is only the 2nd. of these I've seen. Overall a silvery-gray patina overall with thinning blue on the cylinder and better aged blue in the flutes, some blue remains in the most protected areas, it looks to me as if at time time in the past this one was cleaned leaving a more silvery look, sharp markings, unaltered front sight, grips fir perfectly and show light wear only (inside the grips are scratched the initials H and L in each panel with one panel using the two to form what looks like a ranch brand), exc. screws, hammer must be a correct replacement as it simply has too much case color on it to match- could easily be toned down to match, very tight action with fine+ bore that might scrub out to exc., very rare and unusual Colt factory error marking!
