Description:
L.C. Smith OO Grade 20 Gauge Side-by-Side
NICE WOOD, CLEAN & SOLID, 5 3/4 LBS.

General Specs: LC Smith, Year 1910, 20 Gauge, 5lbs 13oz, SxS
Serial Number: 2138R

The L.C. Smith OO Grade is referred to as a "Pre-1913" gun, when things were put together with much care.  Most Elsie collector/shooters recognize the pre-1913 guns as the best, with very few showing any inclination to crack at the sideplates, as they were more carefully inletted and the sideplates were beveled.  More time was spent heading up the stock to the receiver so the recoil lugs were properly engaged.  Hence they are better guns than the post 1913 Field Grades, the grade that replaced the OO.  This fine little bird gun, sn2138R made in 1910, demonstrates the above, as it has no cracks or repairs anywhere in the wood.  The wood to metal fit is still excellent, the screws are all clean, the barrels are tight on hinge pin and breech face with the lever well right of center.  There is a good 70% factory case color remaining on the receiver, with the barrels having been rust blued and retaining 99% deep blue finish.  The English walnut stock has really nice figure, excellent checkering, and a recent professional oil finish.  The 26" Armor Steel barrels have great bores, choked F/F (RST spreader loads work magic to open the pattern to a LM if you want more open shots from the right barrel.  We can alter the chokes to your needs right here in our shop within 2 weeks of purchase) and the gun is a delightful 5lb. 13oz. gun that is a joy to carry and lightning fast to shoulder.  L.C. Smith guns are going up in value every year, and this sweet little bird/clays gun will be worth more money as time goes on as long as it is well cared for.  Affordable American 20ga. guns are not easy to find and this one is priced right.  Thanks for looking.
