RARE IRISH FLINTLOCK LARGE BORE OFFICER’S GREAT COAT PISTOL BY MCKNIGHT OF DUBLIN CIRCA 1810. 9 ½” overall with 5” round .64 caliber smoothbore recessed ribbed barrel engraved “DUBLIN”. Original flint configuration and rare platinum breech plugged touch hole. Highly articulated lock with French cock and waterproof pan and roller frizzen. Plate engraved with a martial “FLAG & TRUMPET” motif and signed “MCKNIGHT”. Checkered bag grip walnut stock engraved steel mounts and silver buttcap. Silver oval wrist plate with “LION” crest and monogram in script “FJH”. Very fine original condition overall. Ramrod a good brass tipped replacement. George McKnight was one of Dublin’s best makers of duelling pistols and sporting guns. His guns often have delicate and handsome French cocks as does this Great Coat Pistol.
