Description:
CIVIL WAR AMES MFG CO. U.S. MODEL 1860 CAVALRY SABER & SCABBARD. Dated 1864 on ricasso along with three line Ames address and "U.S./ J.C.W./ 1864" opposite. Double fullered 35" blade cleaned at one making ricasso markings slightly faded with soft edges although never sharpened. Replaced leather washer. Original leather grip wrap(50% remaining with wood showing through) with original grip wire secure. Brass basket hilt slightly bent with a few dings at guard. Lacquer preserving brass. Crusty pitted finish to scabbard with original rings but no kinks or dings.
