Description:
This 19 inch bayonet features a small bridge, L shaped mortice and flat faced blade with "JBUS" stamping over a "W" with 3 punch dots around it. The 3 5/16 inch socket has a "S" at end of mortice with an inside diameter of .850 inches. These features including the punch dots are discussed on page 24 of Reilly's American socket bayonets. Surfaces shows a dark patina with staining, oxidation and areas of light pitting. Socket has a half inch crack adjacent to mortice. A very good example of this early American bayonet.
