Description:
Serial #448924, 6.5mm Swedish, 29” barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This is a 1923 dated, Carl Gustafs-made rifle that remains primarily in its original military configuration with full-length stock but is also outfitted with a removeable pistol grip, hooded target front sight, and an unknown pattern rear aperture sight, probably of Finnish manufacture (the sight is similar in design to the excellent Norwegian “Hauges” model). The metal retains 97-98% of the original blue finish with some spots of very mild silvering along some of the exposed edges and projections. The straight-handled bolt has all matching numbers with an armory bright finish that has dulled very slightly over time. The floorplate and buttplate are also matching numbered and retain a high degree of their original finish, while the barrel band and nosecap are numbered to different guns. There is a small “SA” Finnish Army cartouche stamped into the left side of the receiver. The stock and handguard are in fine condition with a few minor handling marks scattered about the original varnish. This is an excellent, Finnish Army-used, 96 Target rifle, in FSR configuration (“Frivilliga Skytterorelsen” or Volunteer Shooting Organization), and would make a terrific addition to any collection. {Ref. “Crown Jewels – The Mauser in Sweden” by Dana Jones; 2003} FFL or C&R
