Description:
Serial #6173a, 9mm Para., 6” barrel with a very good bore that has mild freckling within the grooves. This is a handsome pistol that has all matching numbers. The sideplate and hold open are unnumbered. The metal retains 90% plus of the original blue on the remainder with some still bright straw coloring remaining on the safety, take-down lever, and ejector (the trigger was also cleaned lightly to a bright gray patina). Some further mild freckling is visible on the sides of the frame and there is silvering and gray fading at the muzzle and other exposed edges and projections. The pistol has the “(crown)/M” marking of the Imperial German Navy (Kaiserliche Marine) on the left side of the receiver and the altered safety has the original “GESICHERT” milled out with new safety marking above (most of these pistols were altered to confirm with the safety arrangement on subsequent models of Luger pistols and had their markings changed accordingly). The backstrap is marked with the Wilhelmshaven Naval Dockyard property stamp: “WW/2158” (pistol no. 2158); and the checkered wooden grips (numbered to the gun on the interior) have light-moderate wear throughout as well as minor flattening of the points and scattered light handling marks throughout. The pistol comes with a single correct magazine with concentric ring marked wooden base (numbered “6629”) and the pistol rates very good plus condition overall. This is a desirable example of a rare Navy Luger variation that would make a fantastic addition to any collection. FFL or C&R
