Description:
Springfield 1886-Trapdoor-VERY RARE,Springfield Model 1886 Experimental Trapdoor Carbine. Serial #340791, 45-70 caliber, 24" barrel with an excellent bore. This Carbine is completely original throughout and remains in nice condition. The barrel retains about 50% original blue blending with a mellow brown patina and with some very light specks of scattered surface rust. The breech block is properly dated 1873 and retains a good deal of original oil quenched case hardened finish. The lock retains abut half of its original blue finish with the balance being a pleasing smooth brown patina. The plain walnut stock rates excellent with a good deal of original finish and nice raised grain. The rear sight is properly marked "XC" on leaf. While this carbine is not listed in their database, the Springfield Research records show #340782 was also an 1886 Experimental and was issued to Co. M of the 7th Cavalry for testing on June 6, 1886. Price reduced was $5999.99, now $4999.99!
