Description:
Lefever DS 16 Gauge Side-by-Side
TIGHT GUN, 80% CASE COLOR, UNMOLESTED!

General Specs: Lefever, Year 1913, 16 Gauge, 6lbs, SxS
Serial Number: 66088

The Lefever DS or "Durston Special" is the entry level double from the Lefever Gun Co. of Syracuse, New York.  It has the same internal action as there more expensive guns, but lacks cocking indicators and is unadorned in the way of engraving or other beauty treatments.  Surprisingly, very few DS Grades were made in 16ga..  Bob Elliots book "UNCLE DAN LEFEVER MASTER GUN MAKER" estimates maybe 400 guns total production, so these are not often seen.  This particular gun, sn66088 made in 1913, is one of the 400 and is in a pleasing "as found" condition.  The entire gun is in FACTORY ORIGINAL CONDITION with no restorative work on any of the finishes.  Weighing just 6lbs. it is an upland hunter's perfect little Lefever.  There is a lot of original condition on the metal, with 80% factory case color, 90% blue on the barrels, 80% charcoal blue on the trigger guard, and most of the original finish remains on the wood.  Nice for a 103 year old gun!   Lefever guns in smaller gauges are always hard to find and sought after by those who love the vintage American doubles.  The gun came to us with a 13 7/16" LOP to the butt plate.  We can add a genuine Silvers pad, retaining the original curve to the butt, for $190, which would extend the LOP to 14 3/8".  The 28" barrels are in great condition with tight ribs, choked M/F (use RST Spreader loads for close work, or have us open the chokes to your specs within 2 weeks of purchase), with just a scattering of light pits in the barrels.  Small gauge Lefevers are a delight in hand and will continue to increase in value as you enjoy their use.  We have priced this gun very affordably.  Thanks for looking.
