The middle letters are a bit worn, can’t quite make out the first name and the title page only states that it was written by the “Author of Peter Farley’s Tales.” I looked up Peter Farley’s Tales on Amazon books, Abe Books and did an open search and only found another 1850s book also written by “the Author of Peter Farley’s Tales.” The first cover page says History of the Indians of North and South America [Aztec design below] Boston,/G.C. Rand – Wm J Reynolds & Co. Opposite is a print of Cortez surrounded by Aztec warriors with the legend “Cortes Approaching Mexico.” The Second Title Page has the same title and below the aforementioned “Author of Peter Farley’s Tales”/ BOSTON/ Published by Geo. C, Rand, Cornhill/Wm. J. Reynolds & Co./1853. So it may have been published in Boston and Cornhill, England? Actually, for its age the book is in remarkably good condition. The linen covers are worn through at the four corners; there is a tear in the binding (linen) at the top rear spine. The first 3-4 pages are a little stained, but by the time you get to the title pages and thereafter, the pages are very legible and the binding is good, no loose pages at all. Shipping $3.89 SOLD |
