Description:
Smith & Wesson Model 3 American Revolver ("First Model American") .44 S&W caliber. This revolver is a scarce "Transition Model"
. Transition Model serial number ranges are from approximately 6800-8000. Transition models are distinguished by a shorter, 1.423-inch, cylinder and a notch in the hammer for the interlocking barrel catch. This revolver has an 8-inch barrel and smooth walnut grips.

The revolver has the high polish S&W blue finish on the barrel, frame and cylinder. The hammer and trigger guard have a color case-hardened finish. The two-piece, black walnut, grips have an oil finish, Fine as restored, The action functions perfectly. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped: "+ SMITH & WESSON SPRINGFIELD MASS. U.S.A. PAT. JULY 10. 60. JAN.17. FEB. 17. JULY 11. 65 & AUG. 24. 69 +" in one line with Maltese crosses at either end. The serial number, "6841" is stamped on the butt, rear face of the cylinder and on the rear of the frame. $3250.
