Description:
Unfortunately, there is no better category to list this piece under. Anyway, here goes.
This is all that remains of the four bronze cannons that were aboard the Santa Maria, the ship that led the "C" class division of Tall Ships in the Bi-centennial parade in New York Harbor 1976. We used it to salute President Ford as we passed by him. We had a lot of fun back then shooting D-cell batteries out of these babies.
Sadly, a few years later the ship burned to the waterline on the Mississippi. This is all that remains of this piece of American maritime history. It looks romantic though, like you just found it off of the Florida Keys amongst silver ingots.
The overall length is 16.5 inches. The widest diameter is 5 inches. The widest distance across barrel bosses is 7 inches. The weight is approximately 49 pounds. The material is gun metal bronze. Bore diameter is 35mm. The appearance of the weapon before the fire can be seen on YouTube if you look up Lady Barbara Excerpts. The weapon seen in the video was the only gun that survived the fire because it wasn't on the Santa Maria at the time. This gun was used on the Lady Barbara during Op Sail 1986. Let me know if you have any other questions.
