Description:
Fox AE 20 Gauge Side-by-Side Shotgun  **REDUCED PRICE**
FACTORY BEAVERTAIL, ALL FACTORY ORIGINAL

General Specs: A.H. Fox, Year 1916, 20 Gauge, 6lbs 3oz, SxS
Serial Number: 200701

What an unusual Fox AE 20ga. ejector gun we have here. THIS GUN WAS ORIGINALLY BUILT FOR THE PANAMA PACIFIC EXPOSITION OF 1915 AS A LADIES MODEL. It is so unusual to even see an ejector A Grade 20 gauge Fox for sale that this is an "event" nowadays, but one in all factory condition with a beavertail is awesome. An astute Fox collector/student might see some anomalies in this gun, sn200701 built in 1915, yet I am certain of the title line. Factory original in every way, including the pistol grip stock and beavertail forend. "But Fox didn't have the beavertail in 1915" you say??? Likely true, so let me point out the nuances of this special Fox. First, the factory letter shows the gun being for EXPOSITION. And we know the gun went back to the Fox factory for repair after about 1935, as the left barrel shows the Savage era stamping indicating gauge and chamber length, and the barrel flats are stamped with both Philly "FOX" proof marks and "SP" Savage proof marks. Savage began doing this to all guns with short chambers being returned for service after about 1934. Also, the butt stock is a Savage factory A Grade butt stock with the 3 point pistol grip checkering and the beavertail is a Savage factory beavertail, both being factory serial numbered to the gun. The forend iron for the 1935 era beavertail had a reinforcing lug attached to it and required a longer forend latch to accommodate the thicker forend wood, and it is obvious that all of the forend metal has been replaced with new when the wood was changed, and the metal has factory Fox case color on them. The wood shows 98% of the factory finish, the metal 99% factory finish. We have a factory letter on the gun and Savage historian John Callahan concurs with my observations. There is no doubt that the wood and forend metal has been replaced by the factory, making this an all factory gun with very desirable features. Why would anyone go through all of this? Because the gun left the factory with a 13" LOP and shipped as a "ladies gun" as shown on the factory order card. Weighing just 6lbs 3oz. and in perfect mechanical condition, it feels lively in hand as well. The number of guns with ejectors and beavertail forends is likely less than 100 total, so this is a rare opportunity to own a beautiful, rare Fox for a very affordable price. If you have any questions about this gun, please feel free to call to discuss. Thanks for looking!
