Description:
We are offering for sale a VERY RARE Wm. Read & Sons Muzzleloading Shotgun chambered in 20 Ga. This SxS shotgun is in wonderful condition and appears to be an early example of the scarce BOSTON gunsmith’s work.
35” barrels are half octagon and half round. The surface shows a brown/plum patina with spots of original finish showing through. Smooth bores are good with surface wear. Muzzles are very good and still in perfect round. Breach is very good; No percussion nipples. Sidelocks are very good with CRISP Maker’s name and location on either side. Original finish shows perfect patina. THE HAMMERS MUST BE SEEN – They are in complete working condition and resemble fish with open mouths where the hammer strikes the nipple. Trigger guard is very good showing a slightly darker patina than the locks. Double triggers work flawlessly. THE FURNITURE IS BEAUTIFUL with period checkering on the straight grip; Very little handling wear on this apparently refinished stock. There are two small closed cracks on either side where the rear of the sideplate meets the stock (very common). Buttplate is brass.
