This is a very scarce variation of the 1871 Army single shot pistol. In 1887 Remington re-barrelled a few hundred of these 50 caliber pistols with 8” round 22 caliber barrels and sold them to the public as the Mdl 1887 “Plinker” variant. They were produced until the Mdl 1891 was introduced. This example is all original but has led a less than protected life. All of the major parts; barrel, receiver (on the backstrap), grip & forend wood are numbered 117. The receiver and lower tang are also marked with the original Mdl 1871 serial number. The action is tight, the bore is poor, barrel retains 60% of thinning reblue, some light file marks appear to have removed the Remington markings (????) except the serial #, several areas of moderate pitting, original rear sight, and the receiver with all patent markings is silver/gray with some light pitting. The grip is solid with handling marks, chipped with minor wood lose at lower right and the forend has a sliver missing along the top right side. A very scarce variant in restorable condition or fill the void as-is in your Rolling Block collection. SOLD Antique: Yes |
