Description:
This attic percussion Gentleman's Long range rifle was carefully hand chisel engraved with fancy designs and game scenes on the lock-plate, trigger guard, and barrel. There is a gold inlaid name on the lock and it looks like: LAOUE. The 27 3/8" round barrel has a flat top rib and long range rear express sight . Comes with an Enfield 19 th century ram-rod. Action works good and was made without a half cock. Has sling swivels that are European and very narrow for a 5/8" wide sling. Some of these were purchased by the Confederacy as sniper rifles. The caliber is about .68/.69. Has pewter nose cap, and the wood appears to be European finely hand checkered. Metal is brown patina with age encrustation, or estate found, could use mild restoration, as this was a fine gun. The butt-stock on the left side has some scrapes like it chaffed against another gun or a wagon seat?The trigger guard has finger grooves for a firm grasp.Underside of barrel states: LAOUE A' MARSEILLE, and 146.
