Description:
An unusual gun this Horse carbine has a total length about 35" as these were fired by being held under the arm or shouldered with one hand. The 20 1/4" smooth bore barrel has a bore measurement at the muzzle of about .69 or .70 cal. Horse carbines were smooth bore for devastating effect as the cavalry over ran the enemies Artillery and then tuned the guns on them! Confederate Cavalrymen generally had two revolvers and one smooth bore sometimes a cut down shotgun.The barrel has much pitting and deep corrosion near the nipple so this puppy didn't stay home under the bed, it saw lots of action very often. The breech area has been blackened and may have had a brazed top tang at one time.Action looks like an Enfield lock with simple designs made around the edges by a weary soldier around a campfire! The stock is crude hardwood and looks like a hand made brass trigger guard, and butt-plate. Has a marking on the stock of 105 over an 83. Wood looks like ash or oak? Wish this gun could talk! never seen one like this before , came from and old New England estate.We don’t have asite .I prefer money orders or a check. Item ships when funds come in.
