Description:
Serial #J32702, .38 Special, 6” VR barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This is a rare gun, one of only 450 built, and features a wide spur target hammer, grooved trigger, Patridge front sight, adjustable rear sight, and Mk. III target grips. The metal retains 98-99% of the original blue finish with some very mild silvering at the muzzle, as well as a light turn-ring on the cylinder. The hammer has nearly all of the original color case-hardening remaining, and the trigger has a commensurate amount of the original blue remaining. The checkered walnut target grips are in fine shape with some scattered light surface marks, a few very minor blemishes, and some flattening of the points. The lock-up is firm and the action functions flawlessly. These revolvers were basically a target upgraded version of the Trooper Model and were only made for a very short time before being discontinued (1970 – 1972). Two Colt factory letters accompany the revolver. The first is 1981 dated, and lists a ship date of June 29, 1970, to the Miami Valley Shooting Grounds in Vandalia, OH, as part of a four gun shipment. The letter further states that approximately 496 of these revolvers were manufactured before they were dropped from the product line so as not to compete with the similar Python. The second letter is dated 2016, and confirms the ship date and destination, but pares the production figure down to 450 examples. Regardless of the exact figure, this is a very hard-to-find model, and this example is in excellent condition overall. FFL
