WHICH IS SIMPLY THE .45-70 CASE TAPERED DOWN TO .40 CAL.), comes with a 1990 factory letter showing caliber, 28" oct. barrel, set trigger and shipping date of August 3, 1883 and signed by William S. Brophy (who wrote the Marlin book), a really nice example with about all the barrel remaining and showing only the slightest of age, mag tube also has fine blue that is mixing plum (more on the bottom third) but still even and most attractive, fine receiver blue that is thinning/mixing a little plum- all uncleaned and unmessed with, original buckhorn rear sight with correct Rocky Mountain blade front, double set triggers function perfectly, nice blue on the loading gate, exc. wood with tight wood to metal fit, correct smooth steel butt plate, fine+ bore with deep rifling and only some scattered surface roughness toward the middle of the barrel that might brush out better- either way a nice bore, great appearance and rare in this condition and having double set triggers! 133 years old!
