Description:
LIMITED RUN, GREAT DEPRESSION ERA NEW SERVICE COMMERCIAL MODEL IN .45ACP, MADE 1932! According to Timothy Mullin's excellent book COLT'S NEW SERVICE REVOLVER: During the height of the Depression in 1932, in order to help inject needed funds into the Colt coffers, approximately 2,000 leftover M1917 frames were finally assembled into revolvers in the 335000 to 336000 serial number rang and sold on the general market... This revolver is #3356XX and is identical to one pictured in the book, neither has the lanyard swivel as on the military version and both have the unusual barrel marking "COLT MODEL 1917 .45 AUTO CTGE." These of course will also chamber the .45 Auto Rim cartridge, exc. mech., exc. bore (needs a scrub), exc. markings, fine walnut grips show normal holster/handling wear, fine blue overall with wear to the back strap and some flaking/wear between a couple of cylinder flutes and a bit on the top strap- all consistent with the overall condition of the gun, a rare and interesting Great Depression Colt model! Not often encountered.
