Description:
SALE PENDING A fine and desirable cane gun patented by Nils Gustav Hanson in 1885. Hanson was from Switzerland and the original patent dates from 1885. The U.S. Patent was issued in 1895 at the end of production. This cane gun was made in early production in Switzerland and is serial # 43 with all matching parts including the steel skeleton butt stock. This Hanson Patent cane gun is most likely the best and highest quality cane gun to have ever been produced in the antique era. High condition rust blueing remains on the majority of the bolt action breech with no corrosion. The 28 gauge chamber also makes this a very rare and desirable antique. The bore is excellent and as new with not a hint of any corrosion and possibly unfired as the bolt face is also high polish blue with no sign of a primer ring. The rattan wrapped steel barrel measures exactly 28 13/16 inches from the muzzle to bolt face. Germanic style knife handle bolt, ebony pear shaped pistol grip and the original leather thong cocking loop remain in untouched beautiful original condition. The original bead at the muzzle also remains intact. The bolt action is silky smooth and locks up tight as a vault. This Hanson Patent Cane Gun was acquired from the Stockholm Museum collection years ago by a very well known U.S. Arms Collector and I will provide the new owner with that provenance. This Hanson Patent cane gun is quite possibly the earliest known (serial # 43) and highest condition example available today...for the advanced antique collector.  This is considered an antique (non-gun) and will be shipped in a new hardcase...65.00
