Description:
Ithaca NID Grade 2 20 Gauge SxS
20 GAUGE, SINGLE SELECTIVE TRIGGER, NICE!

General Specs: Ithaca, Year 1927, 20 Gauge, 6lbs 12oz, Side-by-Side
Serial Number: 442223

The Ithaca Gun Co. was the most successful of  the American double gun companies.  Why would I say that?  Consider that they had 7 different models totaling over 420,000  produced.  That does not count the Western Arms, Lefever Gun Co., or Single Barrel Trap guns.  All told Ithaca was the most prolific of all makers at well over 1/2 million break action guns produced.  Parker made approximately 250,000 guns.    L.C. Smith was the only company to come close at 439,000 guns.  At that time the Ithaca was priced nearly the same, grade for grade, as the other makers but outsold the other makers by at least 50%.  They offered more figured wood and more decorative checkering patterns than their competitors, and a gun that functioned the way they were expected to.  The buying public obviously considered the Ithaca the better gun at the time.  Ithaca's final rendition was considered their best and strongest model, called the New Ithaca Double, or NID as referred to today.  The NID has the strongest collector interest and it was a delightful gun.  This gun, sn442223 made in 1927, has GORGEOUS FIGURED WOOD, rare single selective trigger, preferred 28" barrels with mirror bores, excellent screws, all in supreme mechanical condition.  This is a "VFI CERTIFIED" gun, meaning the action has been stripped to the smallest part, cleaned in the ultrasonic cleaner, each part inspected for integrity, properly lubricated, and reassembled.  This is a $225 service and allows VFI to provide a 90 day mechanical warranty to the new owner.  Who else does that?  Ithaca guns are the very best investment in American vintage doubles, as they have not yet had their price spike the way Parker, and Fox did, and now L.C. Smith is having.  Gorgeous to look at, dynamite in hand, and mechanically excellent, there is not a better gun out there from the big 5 American makers.
