Late War manufactured by Mauser Oberndorf, code: byf45, Rare date on sniper rifles, serial # 36714, cal. 8mm Mauser, with 24" barrel and a near excellent bore that shows some very minor pits on the left side near the front. The blued bands, receiver and barrel of this byf coded 1945 vintage rifle retain 85% original blue with fading throughout and silvering on bands and front sight cover. The phosphate bolt, triggerguard and floorplate retain 60% original finish with silvering and thinning and some oxidation staining on bolt, and takedown disc. The walnut stock is duffle cut and devoid of markings with scattered handling marks, dings, a couple abrasions on butt all attributed to a fielded weapon. The bolt serial numbers are matching (bolt # appears renumbered) while the firing pin is numbered 14 and the bolt sleeve is numbered 1674 the remaining parts are unnumbered. The triggerguard & floorplate are properly marked "byf" with "Eagle/135", the buttplate is stamped brg, WaA497. The rifle is equipped with an original ZF-41 mounting rail and scope mount numbered 4771 E/214 with a cxn coded Z.F.41. scope, scope has no case or sun shields. Rifle has a canvas 98k sling (never seen one of these slings) with the tab eligible waffenampted. Although you can see thru the scope optics there appears to be a large oval shaped O in the eye piece. Overall as described and photographed this is good example of a late war K98k ZF-41 rifle.
