Description:
Sold pending funds / U.S. M1C Garand Sniper Rifle with Paperwork, made by Springfield Armory, serial #3637982 (mfg. in April 1945), cal. 30-06, with a 24" (2-53) dated barrel, bore is mostly bright with crisp rifling. There is frosting near the muzzle, bore shows an M.E. of 2.5 and the throat shows a T.E. of 5. The rifle retains about 96% of its arsenal parkerized finish. This rifle has the following markings and part numbers, Receiver: “SA-52” (this is a 1952 rebuild mark) and “U.S. RIFLE / CAL. .30 M1 / SPRINGFIELD ARMORY / 3637982”, Receiver Leg “0 8 5 C”, “O” and “D528291-35", Barrel “SA”, “D6535448 “2 53”, “A185”, “P”, Bolt: “6528287 - SA / US1”, Op Rod: “635382 SA”, Trigger Group “6628290-SA, Hammer “SA D5546008”, Safety: “SA-11, Follower: unmarked, Gas Tube Nut: “NHC”, the T37 flash hider is original and show machining marks reproduction parts do not have these machining marks. The three piece stock set rates an overall very good plus condition.  The bottom of the pistol grip is stampeded with a “circled P” firing proof. The left side of the buttstock is stamped with a Springfield Armory “boxed SA” (the bottom of the box is open) stamping and a Raritan Arsenal rebuild stamping “RA”.  This M1C rifle is equipped with a Griffin & Howe mount and original M82 scope. The left side of the scope is marked “TELESCOPE M82 / SERIAL NO. 44220 / STOCK NO. F001-0084688”. The adjustment knob mounts are each marked “7634671”. The caps are both marked “7575180”, rear eyepiece is marked “7634670”, the rubber eye shield is a reproduction and noted for an honest description. The upper portion of the mount is blued and marked “GRIFFIN & HOWE INC. NEW YORK / PAT. # 1,856,549 MAY 3 1932” and mates with the dovetail on the top of the lower portion and secured by two compression levers, mount is stamped “3615714”. The lower portion of the scope mount is parkerized and attached to the left side of the receiver by three screws and two pins and the mount is stamped “3290471”. This Springfield Armory M1C Garand Sniper has an interesting history indicating purchase history from the CMP authenticating it as an M1C Sniper Rifle and by its markings and the paperwork provided including paperwork done by Griffin & Howe and lastly a letter from David H. McClain of the M1C Verification Service that lists the serial number of the rifle and authenticates the receiver as an M1C receiver. Mr. McClain was the chairman of the Garand Collectors Association.  Overall this documented rifle as photographed and described is in Collectors Grade Condition.  Inv.: # 2-1736
